Implants
What are Implants?
A dental implant is an artificial tooth “root” used to support a replacement tooth or bridge. Made of titanium, a biocompatible material accepted by the human body, the implant is placed into the jawbone beneath a missing tooth. It fuses with the bone over a period of several months. Once properly fused, a replacement tooth (or teeth, or crown, is attached to the implant to mimic the original.
Dental implants have become a popular and effective way to replace missing teeth. Strong and stable, with proper care, implants can last a lifetime. While more expensive than other options, such as dentures or bridges, implants provide a look and feel that is more natural – almost like the original tooth! With a high success rate, they help to prevent teeth drifting and restore smile and bite pattern. Dental implants aren’t suitable for everyone – healthy gums and bone is critical to support the implant.
Richmond Dental Centre On-Staff Periodontist
We consider ourselves to be very fortunate. We’re one of only a few clinics in downtown Toronto that has a peridontist on-staff.
Our staff periodontist, Dr. Michael Landzberg, works from our clinic on select days of the week. This availability makes referrals so much easier. With a periodontist in our clinic, you can get an examination for your implant much quicker – often within only a week for your initial consultation. After the initial consultation, Dr. Landzberg will place your implant and return you to your dentist for the attachment of the crown.
